Restaurant Fire Safety
5/14/2018 (Permalink)
Restaurants have a higher degree of fire risk than most businesses. According to the National Fire Protection Association, approximately 61% of all restaurant fires between 2010 and 2014 were caused by cooking. Restaurants with their opens flames, hot equipment, electrical connections, cooking oils, cleaning chemicals and paper products have all the ingredients for a fire.
Preventative Maintenance:
- Install an automatic fire-suppression system in the kitchen.
- Keep portable fire extinguishers as a backup.
- Schedule regular maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Have your exhaust system inspected for grease buildup.
It is not only important for a restaurant to have preventative maintenance but also an emergency plan and staff training to take control of the situation to lead customers to safety.
